The Hitlerjugend Division first saw action in Normandy - 20,000 strong on D-Day, after the battle it had been reduced to fewer than 1000 front line troops. This sculpture shows a machine gun crew fighting around the town of Caen where the 12th SS gained its reputation for fanatical resistance and steadfastness.
