After the smashing victory at Kharkov in 1943 by the SS Panzerkorps the last great victory in the east, troops of the first SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS were honoured with the renaming of the enormous red square in the city centre as The Platz der Leibstandarte for their role in achieving such a stunning victory. This sculpture shows two of the young dynamic officers SS Standartenfuhrer Fritz Witt and SS Sturmbannfuhrer Jochen Peiper
